Alzheimer's Disease
CURRENTLY ENROLLING
Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a dementing illness, clinically characterized by progressive
memory loss and impairment in conducting the activities of daily living. Many scientists
believe that AD results from an increase in the production or accumulation of a specific
protein in the brain (so-called beta-amyloid) that causes death of nerve cell.
Loss of nerve cells in strategic brain areas, in turn, results in deficits of certain
neurotransmitters, which are the brainís chemical messengers.
The main risk factor for AD is increased age. Other risk factors are genetic disposition,
oxidative stress as well as a number of medical conditions such as depression or cerebrovascular
diseases.
Rapid advances in basic scientific and clinical knowledge have
led to the development of specific drugs against AD. TULSA CLINICAL
RESEARCH, LLC in Tulsa, Oklahoma, is currently conducting various
research studies with promising new agents for the treatment of
patients in all severity stages of Alzheimer's disease.
